Swindon Water Softeners are your local salt supplier.  Available for collection or delivery across Swindon and surrounding areas.

What is Salt

A water softener using salt, which replicates nature, is probably the oldest green technology known to us. The process is utilising nature’s way of balancing the natural environment.

The minerals which cause water hardness, calcium and magnesium, are removed with the aid of sodium – the most abundant mineral on earth. Any method which claims to remove hardness and yet which does not use salt, is mis-representing their process.

Methods which mask the hardness, or which seek to alter the molecular structure of the calcium so that it does not form limescale, are not long-term solutions and they do not provide the benefits that a water softener using sodium does. By actually removing the calcium and magnesium the water is without the content that causes the staining and obscuring of glassware etc, so you do save time, you do save money by purchasing less cleaning products and cheaper ones, you do save money by not having to repair appliances or replace them as often.

The quality of salt used in a water softener is extremely important. Nowadays, there are many cheap imitations which claim to be good enough, but which do not take account of the impurites that might be in the salt. These issues can cause blocked filters, salt sludge in the bottom of the softener and in some cases damage to the softener itself. Always look for the purity of the salt on the packaging before you purchase it or buy your salt from a water softener dealer so that you know they are satisfied with its quality. After all, if your dealer is supplying a shoddy salt, isn’t that just creating more work for them and more cost for you?

All softeners take salt tablets or salt blocks. Some very old softeners still use salt granules, but the industry steered away from them when they realised that granules can stick together in the way that frozen peas do, and this can cause something known as the “cave effect” where the salt is stuck to the sides of the softener cabinet and does not drop down into the water at the bottom when the salt below is dissolved.

There are now 2 different block salts shapes. Harvey invented the block of salt, a 4kg almost square block and more recently, Harvey’s has re-invented it by changing its size and shape in order to maximise the amount in the softener.

Our Stock

We stock Salt Tablets in 10kg and 25kg packaging. We always have Hydrosoft as it is the best UK brand available, and it is 99.96% pure salt. We normally have another brand available from mainland Europe. Again, we are only interested in quality and Esco which controls most salt in Europe have a number of brands that we can call on.

We stock Block Salt in 8kg packs with the Kinetico brand and in the new Harvey Curve size.

We stock Salt Granules in 10kg and 25kg packaging – again Hydrosoft as the best available – but not necessarily always in Swindon so if you require this, please contact us before travelling so that we can make the necessary arrangements if needed.

Deicing Salt

We stock clean, white, sustainably sourced de-icing salt all year round, in 25kg packaging. We supply this to all manner of customers for a wide variety of uses. It is used for smoking food, breeding fish, for adding to water in portable toilets so that they don’t freeze as much, for weed control or gardening management of slugs etc and of course there must be many other uses too. Oh and we sell it for de-icing use as well. If you need any spreading equipment, we also have access to that in small or large scale numbers.

Salt is for sale on a collection basis. If you require it to be delivered, please purchase it from our online salt shop, thesaltman.com. We use a nationwide courier and pallet hauliers as well as our own vehicles to deliver salt but it is not a priority for our own vehicles and they do not deliver to a deadline. If your need is urgent, we always advise that you collect.
